How moshimoshi works

A safe, simple phone service for children — managed entirely by parents. Here's everything you need to know.

01

Order your mochi device

A mochi is a compact, kid-friendly phone handset that connects to your home broadband router. No SIM card. No cellular data. It uses your existing internet connection to make crystal-clear voice calls — the same technology that powers business phone systems, made delightfully simple. We ship directly to your door. Mochi arrives pre-configured with your child's number, ready to plug in and use. Setup takes less than five minutes.

02

Set up in the parent app

Open the moshimoshi parent app on your smartphone. Add the contacts your child is allowed to call — grandparents, aunties, close friends. Every contact you add gets a name your child can see on their mochi. Set calling hours so the mochi is silent at bedtime and during school time. Adjust everything whenever you like — changes take effect immediately on the device.

📱
03

Your child picks up and calls

No passwords, no apps, no swipe gestures. Your child picks up the handset and dials. The mochi only connects calls to approved contacts — unknown numbers simply don't ring through. Callers not on the list hear a polite message. You can see call activity in the parent app — who called, when, how long. No audio recording, no surveillance — just the essentials so you stay in the loop.

Common questions

Does it work if my internet goes down? +

Calls require a broadband connection. If your internet is down, calls won't work — just like any VoIP phone. We recommend keeping a mobile number available as a backup for emergencies.

Can a mochi phone call 000 (emergency services)? +

No. If you call 000 you'll hear a recorded message advising you to call from a regular landline or mobile network.

What if my child dials a number not on their list? +

The call simply won't connect. The mochi plays a gentle tone and the child hears "you can only call your saved contacts." It's not harsh — just firm.

Can people call my child's number from outside the family? +

Only people you've approved as contacts can reach your child. Anyone else gets a "number unavailable" message. There's no way to cold-call a mochi.

Do I need a separate phone line? +

No. Mochi uses your home internet (VoIP), not a traditional phone line. You don't need to pay for a landline service — just your existing broadband.
